HB 1582 (2000)

establishing a committee to study workplace policies and practices of small businesses for their effect on New Hampshire employees and their families.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1999-2000
  • House committee: Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services
  • Senate committee: Public Affairs
  • Subject: Study Committees and Commissions
  • Chapter law: 233

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 2000. The committee held work sessions on February 10, 2000, February 15, 2000 and February 23, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 16–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 9, 2000 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on March 16, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Public Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 12, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate make no recommendation. On May 18, 2000 the Senate adopted “Sen. McCarley Motion OTP” on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 18, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (4633) was adopted on a voice vote to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 1, 2000, making it Chapter 233 of the session laws. It took effect on June 1, 2000.
