HB 1492-FN (2000)

relative to clarifying the state's stalking statute.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1999-2000
  • House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
  • Senate committee: Judiciary
  • Subject: Crimes, Criminal Procedure and Corrections
  • Chapter law: 151

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 12, 2000. The committee held work sessions on January 19, 2000, February 2, 2000, February 8, 2000, February 16, 2000 and March 7, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 14–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 23, 2000 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on March 23, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 27, 2000 the Senate adopted “Committee Report Ought to Pass” on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 11, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 23, 2000, making it Chapter 151 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 2001.
