The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 25, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 12–5. On February 17, 2000 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 203–118. It crossed to the Senate on February 17, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Public Institutions, Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 25, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 4449). On May 18, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 18, 2000 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes. On May 23, 2000 the Senate adopted “Sen. Squires Accede to House Request for C of C” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on May 25, 2000 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On May 31, 2000 the House adopted “Conf Comm Report”. On May 31, 2000 the Senate adopted “Conf. Comm Report”.
