The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the House Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 11, 2000. The committee held a work session on January 18, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 18–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 3, 2000 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on February 3, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 15, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3863). On March 23, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On March 29, 2000 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 6, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on April 17, 2000, making it Chapter 60 of the session laws. It took effect on April 17, 2000.
