The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 19, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 14–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 17, 2000 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on February 17, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Public Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 22, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3927). On March 30, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 13, 2000 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 20, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on April 27, 2000, making it Chapter 95 of the session laws. It took effect on April 27, 2000.
