HB 1406 (2000)
relative to transition service.
- Status: Vetoed, override failed
- Term: 1999-2000
- House committee: Science, Technology and Energy
- Senate committee: Executive Departments and Administration
- Subject: Energy and Utilities
The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the House Science, Technology and Energy committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 11, 2000. The committee held work sessions on January 20, 2000, February 3, 2000, February 9, 2000, February 16, 2000 and February 24, 2000. The committee held a public hearing on March 7, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 15–0. On March 23, 2000 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 23, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 25, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 27, 2000 the Senate adopted “Committee Report Ought to Pass” on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 11, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on May 23, 2000. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On June 27, 2000 the House voted 19–326 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
