The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the House Resources, Recreation and Development committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 18, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 15–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 27, 2000 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on February 3, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 7, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3727). On March 16, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On March 23, 2000 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on March 29, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on April 7, 2000, making it Chapter 44 of the session laws. It took effect on June 6, 2000.
