The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the House Finance committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 8, 2000. The committee held a work session on February 16, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 22–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 9, 2000 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on March 16, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Insurance committee. On March 30, 2000 the House voted to pass it. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 6, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on April 20, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (4061) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on April 27, 2000, making it Chapter 92 of the session laws. It took effect on June 26, 2000.
