  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1999-2000
  • House committee: Municipal and County Government
  • Senate committee: Energy and Economic Development
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 292

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 18, 2000. The committee held a work session on March 8, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 11–3, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 29, 2000 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on April 6, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Energy and Economic Development committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 2, 2000. On May 11, 2000 the Senate adopted “Committee Report Ought to Pass with Amendment” on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On May 18, 2000 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On May 18, 2000 the Senate adopted “Sen. F. King Accede to House request for C of C” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on May 24, 2000 and May 25, 2000 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On May 31, 2000 the House adopted “Conf Comm Report” on a voice vote. On May 31, 2000 the Senate adopted “Conf. Comm. Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 31, 2000 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (4781) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 21, 2000, making it Chapter 292 of the session laws.
