The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 2000 and referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 6, 2000. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 13–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 27, 2000 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on February 3, 2000 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 15, 2000. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes (amendment 3995). On April 6, 2000 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On April 20, 2000 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On April 20, 2000 the Senate adopted “Sen. Pignatelli Accede to House request for C of C” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on May 16, 2000 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On May 31, 2000 the House adopted “Conf Comm Report”. On May 31, 2000 the Senate adopted “Conf. Comm. Report”.
