The Story

It was introduced on January 28, 1999 and referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 16, 1999. The committee voted 5–2 to recommend that the Senate pass it. On February 18, 1999 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Gordon. On April 29, 1999 the Senate adopted “Remove from Table” on a voice vote. On April 29, 1999 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote. On May 18, 1999 the Senate adopted “Remove From Table” on a voice vote. On May 18, 1999 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote. On May 20, 1999 the Senate adopted “Remove From Table” on a voice vote. A floor amendment (1356), offered by Sen. J. King, was adopted on a roll call 12–8 on May 20, 1999, changing the text of the bill. It crossed to the House on May 25, 1999 and was referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on June 1, 1999. The committee held work sessions on June 8, 1999 and June 15, 1999. The majority of the committee recommended that the House kill it by a vote of 12–5. On June 22, 1999 the House voted to kill it on a roll call 198–133.
