  • Term: 1999-2000
  • House committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Senate committee: Executive Departments and Administration

  • Chapter law: 331

The Story

It was introduced on February 18, 1999 and referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 30, 1999. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 8, 1999 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 21, 1999. The committee held work sessions on May 18, 1999, May 27, 1999, June 2, 1999, June 8, 1999 and June 15, 1999. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 14–0. On June 22, 1999 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 29, 1999 the Senate adopted “Senate Non Concurs With House Amendment Request Committee of Conference” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Cohen. On June 29, 1999 the House adopted “Susp Rules for C of C mtg & Rept” on a voice vote. On June 29, 1999 the House adopted “House Acceded to Req for Conf Comm” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 30, 1999 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On July 1, 1999 the House adopted “Conf Comm Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on July 1, 1999 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 16, 1999, making it Chapter 331 of the session laws. It took effect on September 14, 1999.
