The Story

It was introduced on February 11, 1999 and referred to the Senate Insurance committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 1999. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 13, 1999 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House on May 13, 1999 and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on June 1, 1999. The committee held a work session on June 17, 1999. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 12–1, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On June 22, 1999 the House voted to pass it with changes. On June 30, 1999 the Senate adopted “Senate Concurred W/ House Amendment” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Wheeler. The bill was enrolled on July 1, 1999 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 16, 1999, making it Chapter 323 of the session laws. It took effect on September 14, 1999.
