  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1999-2000
  • House committee: Commerce
  • Senate committee: Insurance
  • Subject: Insurance
  • Chapter law: 316

The Story

It was introduced on January 28, 1999 and referred to the Senate Insurance committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 8, 1999 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 6, 1999. The committee held work sessions on May 19, 1999 and June 17, 1999. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 17–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On June 29, 1999 the House voted to pass it with changes. On June 29, 1999 the Senate adopted “Senate Concurs W/House Amendment” on a voice vote, on a motion by Sen. Wheeler. The bill was enrolled on July 1, 1999 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 16, 1999, making it Chapter 316 of the session laws. It took effect on September 14, 1999.
