HB 729 (1999)

redefining "charitable organization" for purposes of the laws governing raffles.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1999-2000
  • House committee: Criminal Justice and Public Safety
  • Senate committee: Internal Affairs
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 306

The Story

It was introduced on February 16, 1999 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 11, 1999. The committee held a work session on March 17, 1999. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 13–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 25, 1999 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on April 14, 1999 and was referred to the Senate Internal Affairs committee. The committee held public hearings on April 29, 1999 and May 6, 1999. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On June 22, 1999 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote. On July 1, 1999 the Senate adopted “Remove From Table” on a voice vote. On July 1, 1999 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On July 1, 1999 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on July 1, 1999 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 16, 1999, making it Chapter 306 of the session laws. It took effect on September 14, 1999.
