HB 490 (1999)

enabling cities to permit the mayor to vote at city council meetings.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1999-2000
  • House committee: Municipal and County Government
  • Senate committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Subject: Municipalities
  • Chapter law: 27

The Story

It was introduced on January 28, 1999 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 1, 1999. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 15–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 18, 1999 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on March 30, 1999 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 13, 1999. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 20, 1999 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on April 29, 1999 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 5, 1999, making it Chapter 27 of the session laws. It took effect on July 4, 1999.
