The Story
It was introduced on January 28, 1999 and referred to the House Children and Family Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 9, 1999. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 14–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 30, 1999 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on April 14, 1999 and was referred to the Senate Public Institutions, Health and Human Services committee. The committee held public hearings on May 11, 1999 and June 8, 1999. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On June 17, 1999 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. On June 22, 1999 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on July 1, 1999 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on July 6, 1999, making it Chapter 199 of the session laws. It took effect on July 6, 1999.
