HB 292 (1999)

relative to ballot procedures for constitutional amendments.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1999-2000
  • House committee: Election Law
  • Senate committee: Executive Departments and Administration
  • Subject: Elections
  • Chapter law: 67

The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 1999 and referred to the House Election Law committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 26, 1999. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 12–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 18, 1999 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on March 30, 1999 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held public hearings on April 20, 1999 and May 11, 1999. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On May 13, 1999 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote and ordered it to a third reading. The bill was enrolled on May 20, 1999 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 28, 1999, making it Chapter 67 of the session laws. It took effect on July 27, 1999.
