The Story
It was introduced on March 5, 1998 and referred to the Senate Insurance committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 18, 1998. The committee met in executive session on March 18, 1998 to vote on its recommendation. The committee voted unanimously, 8–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it. On March 26, 1998 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 7, 1998. On April 9, 1998 the House adopted “Suspend Rules change rept date to 05/14/1998”, on a motion by Rep. Wheeler & Burling. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 11–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on May 20, 1998. On May 20, 1998 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 4, 1998 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 15, 1998, making it Chapter 188 of the session laws. It took effect on August 14, 1998.
