The Story
It was introduced on January 7, 1998 and referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held public hearings on January 22, 1998 and February 19, 1998. The committee voted 6–2 to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes. On March 12, 1998 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the House on March 19, 1998 and was referred to the House Science, Technology and Energy committee. The committee held public hearings on March 31, 1998 and April 7, 1998. The committee held a work session on April 7, 1998. On April 9, 1998 the House adopted “Suspend Rules change rept date to 05/14/1998”, on a motion by Rep. Wheeler & Burling. The committee held a work session on April 14, 1998. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 16–0. On May 7, 1998 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 21, 1998 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a roll call 13–7. The bill was enrolled on June 10, 1998 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 15, 1998, making it Chapter 191 of the session laws. It took effect on June 17, 1998.
