The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 1998 and referred to the Senate Banks committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 27, 1998. The committee voted unanimously, 4–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it. On February 12, 1998 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the House on February 18, 1998 and was referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 11, 1998. The committee held work sessions on March 24, 1998 and March 31, 1998. On April 9, 1998 the House adopted “Suspend Rules change rept date to 05/14/1998”, on a motion by Rep. Wheeler & Burling. The majority of the committee recommended that the House study it after the session ends by a vote of 13–2. On May 14, 1998 the House adopted “Special Order to 1st item” on a voice vote. On May 14, 1998 the House voted to study it after the session ends. The committee held a work session on October 7, 1998. The committee reported back on its interim study of the bill: “Not Recommended for Future Legislation”, by a vote of 10 to 1.
