It crossed to the House on March 12, 1998 and was referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 31, 1998. The committee held a work session on April 2, 1998. On April 9, 1998 the House adopted “Suspend Rules change rept date to 05/14/1998”, on a motion by Rep. Wheeler & Burling. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 14–2. On May 20, 1998 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 4, 1998 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. It became law without the governor's signature, as Chapter 189. The governor neither signed it nor returned it, and the docket records it as enacted under Part II, Article 44 of the state constitution.
