The Story
On January 29, 1997 the House adopted “Suspend Rules for intro on legis signed off after 01/17/1997”, on a motion by Rep. Wheeler & Burling. It was introduced on January 29, 1997 and referred to the House Finance committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 4, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House send it back to committee unanimously, 20–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 12, 1997 the bill was referred to the Finance committee. The committee held a work session on June 24, 1997. The committee met in executive session on October 20, 1997 to vote on its recommendation. The committee held a work session on October 29, 1997. The committee met in executive session on October 29, 1997 to vote on its recommendation. The majority of the committee recommended that the House study it after the session ends by a vote of 17–1, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 7, 1998 the House voted to study it after the session ends as part of its consent calendar, which it adopted on a roll call 248–8. The committee held a work session on October 21, 1998. The committee met in executive session on October 21, 1998 to vote on its recommendation. The committee reported back on its interim study of the bill: “Recommended for Future Legislation”, by a vote of 18 to 0.
