The Story

It was introduced on January 29, 1997 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 28, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House send it back to committee unanimously, 14–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 12, 1997 the bill was referred to the Municipal and County Government committee. The committee held work sessions on April 3, 1997, April 28, 1997, May 7, 1997, July 22, 1997, September 16, 1997 and October 27, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House study it after the session ends unanimously, 16–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On January 7, 1998 the House voted to study it after the session ends as part of its consent calendar, which it adopted on a roll call 248–8. The committee held work sessions on July 7, 1998, September 15, 1998 and October 14, 1998. The committee reported back on its interim study of the bill: “Not Recommended for Future Legislation”, by a vote of 15 to 0.
