HB 385 (1998)
relative to reporting and registration requirements for lobbyists and employees of lobbyists.
- Status: Indefinitely postponed
- Term: 1997-1998
- House committee: Legislative Administration
- Senate committee: Internal Affairs
- Subject: Legislature
The Story
It was introduced on January 9, 1997 and referred to the House Legislative Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 6, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 13–0. On March 12, 1997 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 13, 1997 and was referred to the Senate Internal Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 15, 1997. The committee voted unanimously, 4–0, to recommend that the Senate send it back to committee. The committee retained the bill, holding it for further work rather than reporting it out this year. The committee met in executive session on January 8, 1998 and January 29, 1998. The committee voted 4–3 to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes. On February 12, 1998 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 16–8. On April 9, 1998 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On June 10, 1998 the Senate adopted “Accede to Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 12, 1998 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On September 24, 1998 the House voted to kill it and bar the subject for the rest of the term on a voice vote.
