The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 1998 and referred to the House Wildlife and Marine Resources committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 27, 1998. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 12–0. On February 12, 1998 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote, then referred it on to the House Finance committee. On February 12, 1998 the House voted to pass it on a division vote 255–50, then referred it on to the House Finance committee. The committee held a work session on March 4, 1998. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 14–1, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 25, 1998 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on April 9, 1998 and was referred to the Senate Wildlife and Recreation committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 30, 1998. The majority recommended that the Senate pass it with changes, and the minority recommended that the Senate kill it, by a vote of 4–3. On June 10, 1998 the Senate voted to kill it on a voice vote. On June 10, 1998 the Senate failed “Reconsider” on a roll call 11–11, on a motion by Sen. Gordon.
