HB 1389-FN-LOCAL (1998)

relative to agreements for telecommunications-related uses of the state highway system and state-owned railroad rights-of-way.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1997-1998
  • House committee: Public Works and Highways
  • Senate committee: Transportation
  • Subject: Transportation and Highways
  • Chapter law: 337

The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 1998 and referred to the House Public Works and Highways committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 21, 1998. The committee held work sessions on February 3, 1998 and February 5, 1998. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 14–3, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 18, 1998 the House voted to pass it with changes, then referred it on to the House Finance committee. The committee held a work session on March 4, 1998. The committee voted 13–2 to recommend that the House pass it. On March 19, 1998 the House adopted “Special Order to 03/25/1998” on a voice vote. On March 25, 1998 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 9, 1998 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The Senate withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Transportation committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on May 12, 1998. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes. On June 4, 1998 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 10, 1998 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On June 10, 1998 the Senate adopted “Accede to Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 12, 1998 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On June 18, 1998 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. On June 18, 1998 the House adopted “Conference Committee Report”. The bill was enrolled on June 18, 1998 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2268) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 26, 1998, making it Chapter 337 of the session laws. It took effect on June 26, 1998.
