  • Term: 1997-1998
  • House committee: Executive Departments and Administration

The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 1998 and referred to the House Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 14, 1998. The committee held work sessions on January 20, 1998 and January 27, 1998. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 14–3. On February 18, 1998 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote, then referred it on to the House Finance committee. The committee held a work session on March 9, 1998. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 14–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 25, 1998 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on April 9, 1998 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 7, 1998. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes. On June 10, 1998 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On June 10, 1998 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 18, 1998 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (2135) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. It became law without the governor's signature on June 27, 1998, as Chapter 386. The governor neither signed it nor returned it, and the docket records it as enacted under Part II, Article 44 of the state constitution.
