  • Term: 1997-1998
  • House committee: Wildlife and Marine Resources
  • Senate committee: Wildlife and Recreation

The Story

It was introduced on January 7, 1998 and referred to the House Wildlife and Marine Resources committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 14, 1998. The majority recommended that the House pass it with changes, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 12–3. On February 12, 1998 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote, then referred it on to the House Finance committee. The committee held a work session on March 4, 1998. The committee voted unanimously, 15–0, to recommend that the House pass it, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 19, 1998 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on March 26, 1998 and was referred to the Senate Wildlife and Recreation committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 23, 1998. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it. On June 4, 1998 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 18, 1998 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 24, 1998, making it Chapter 225 of the session laws. It took effect on June 24, 1998.
