The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 1997 and referred to the House Finance committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 28, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House send it back to committee unanimously, 19–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 5, 1997 the bill was referred to the Finance committee. The committee held work sessions on May 6, 1997, June 24, 1997, July 22, 1997, August 5, 1997, September 17, 1997 and September 23, 1997. The committee met in executive session on October 20, 1997 to vote on its recommendation. The majority of the committee recommended that the House study it after the session ends unanimously, 20–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. The bill was taken off the consent calendar on January 7, 1998. On January 15, 1998 the House voted to study it after the session ends on a voice vote. The committee held work sessions on September 22, 1998 and October 21, 1998. The committee met in executive session on October 21, 1998 to vote on its recommendation. The committee reported back on its interim study of the bill: “Not Recommended for Future Legislation”, by a vote of 14 to 4.
