The Story

It was introduced on January 9, 1997 and referred to the House Finance committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 4, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 11–9. On April 2, 1997 the bill was referred to the Finance committee. The committee held work sessions on June 24, 1997, August 13, 1997, August 25, 1997, September 8, 1997, September 17, 1997, October 1, 1997, October 8, 1997 and October 14, 1997. The committee met in executive session on October 20, 1997 and October 29, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House kill it by a vote of 16–2. On January 15, 1998 the House voted to kill it on a voice vote.
