  • Term: 1997-1998
  • House committee: Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services

The Story

It was introduced on January 8, 1997 and referred to the Senate Insurance committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 14, 1997. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On January 23, 1997 the Senate voted to lay it on the table on a voice vote. On February 20, 1997 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Labor, Industrial and Rehabilitative Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 25, 1997. The committee held work sessions on April 9, 1997 and April 22, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 14–1, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On May 7, 1997 the House voted to pass it with changes. On May 13, 1997 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On May 28, 1997 the House adopted “Accede to Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 2, 1997 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On June 10, 1997 the House adopted “Conference Committee Report”. On June 10, 1997 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 10, 1997 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 20, 1997, making it Chapter 300 of the session laws. It took effect on August 19, 1997.
