The Story
On January 29, 1997 the House adopted “Suspend Rules for intro on legis signed off after 01/17/1997”, on a motion by Rep. Wheeler & Burling. It was introduced on January 29, 1997 and referred to the House State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Science, Technology and Energy committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on February 18, 1997. The committee held work sessions on February 26, 1997 and March 11, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 18–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 18, 1997 the House voted to adopt it. It crossed to the Senate on March 27, 1997 and was referred to the Senate Environment committee. The committee voted unanimously, 4–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it. On May 6, 1997 the Senate voted to adopt it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 28, 1997 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 3, 1997, making it Chapter 98 of the session laws.
