HJR 2 (1997)

urging the members of Congress to support and pass the Family Forestland Preservation Tax Act.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1997-1998
  • House committee: State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs
  • Senate committee: Environment
  • Subject: Miscellaneous
  • Chapter law: 160

The Story

It was introduced on January 9, 1997 and referred to the House State-Federal Relations and Veterans Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 18, 1997. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 10–4. On March 18, 1997 the House adopted “Special Order to 03/19/1997”. On March 19, 1997 the House voted to adopt it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 27, 1997 and was referred to the Senate Environment committee. The committee voted unanimously, 7–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes. On May 8, 1997 the Senate voted to adopt it on a voice vote. On May 20, 1997 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 29, 1997 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 9, 1997, making it Chapter 160 of the session laws.
