The Story

On January 29, 1997 the House adopted “Suspend Rules for intro on legis signed off after 01/17/1997”, on a motion by Rep. Wheeler & Burling. It was introduced on January 29, 1997 and referred to the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 25, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 16–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 18, 1997 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on March 27, 1997 and was referred to the Senate Transportation committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 13, 1997. The committee voted unanimously, 5–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it. On May 20, 1997 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote.
