The Story

It was introduced on January 29, 1997 and referred to the House Transportation committee. The House withdrew that referral and sent the bill to the Resources, Recreation and Development committee instead. The committee held a public hearing on February 18, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 17–0. On March 5, 1997 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote, then referred it on to the House Finance committee. The committee held a work session on March 17, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 16–3. On April 2, 1997 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on April 10, 1997 and was referred to the Senate Wildlife and Recreation committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 1, 1997. The committee voted 5–1 to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes. On May 15, 1997 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 28, 1997 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 10, 1997 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 19, 1997, making it Chapter 268 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 1997.
