HB 567-FN-LOCAL (1997)

relative to administration of vital records.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1997-1998
  • House committee: Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs
  • Senate committee: Public Institutions, Health and Human Services
  • Subject: Public and Mental Health
  • Chapter law: 325

The Story

It was introduced on January 9, 1997 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 19, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 17–2. On March 12, 1997 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 13, 1997 and was referred to the Senate Public Institutions, Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on May 6, 1997. The committee voted unanimously, 7–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes. On May 20, 1997 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 29, 1997 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes. On May 29, 1997 the Senate adopted “Accede to Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on June 2, 1997 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On June 10, 1997 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. On June 10, 1997 the House adopted “Conference Committee Report”. The bill was enrolled on June 10, 1997 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. An enrolled bill amendment () was adopted on June 10, 1997. These correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 23, 1997, making it Chapter 325 of the session laws. It took effect on August 22, 1997.
