The Story

It was introduced on January 9, 1997 and referred to the House Commerce committee. The committee held public hearings on January 28, 1997 and February 4, 1997. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 17–0. On February 19, 1997 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on February 20, 1997 and was referred to the Senate Insurance committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 19, 1997. The committee voted 5–1 to recommend that the Senate pass it. On March 27, 1997 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 10, 1997 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on April 22, 1997, making it Chapter 14 of the session laws. It took effect on June 21, 1997.
