The Story

It was introduced on January 3, 1996 and referred to the Senate Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 16, 1996. The committee voted unanimously, 7–0, to recommend that the Senate pass it with changes. On January 25, 1996 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the House on February 1, 1996 and was referred to the House Education committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 27, 1996. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 14–4. On April 17, 1996 the House adopted “Special Order to 04/18/1996”. On April 18, 1996 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 9, 1996 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment (6033) was adopted on a voice vote on May 29, 1996. These correct technical errors found after passage.
