- Status: Vetoed, override failed
- Term: 1995-1996
- House committee: Commerce, Small Business, Consumer Affairs and Economic Development
- Senate committee: Economic Development
- Subject: Housing
The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 1995 and referred to the Senate Economic Development committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 26, 1995. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On March 15, 1995 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the House on March 16, 1995 and was referred to the House Commerce, Small Business, Consumer Affairs and Economic Development committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 12, 1995. The committee held a work session on April 25, 1995. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 19–0. On May 9, 1995 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 18, 1995 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On May 23, 1995 the House adopted “Accede to Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on May 30, 1995 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On June 6, 1995 the House adopted “Conference Committee Report”. On June 6, 1995 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 6, 1995 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on June 19, 1995. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On June 29, 1995 the Senate voted 4–20 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
