SB 1 (1995)

relative to term limits.

  • Status: Signed into law
  • Term: 1995-1996
  • House committee: Constitutional and Statutory Revision
  • Senate committee: Public Affairs
  • Subject: Elections
  • Chapter law: 108

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 1995 and referred to the Senate Public Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 23, 1995. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 7, 1995 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 24–0. It crossed to the House on March 16, 1995 and was referred to the House Constitutional and Statutory Revision committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 29, 1995. The majority recommended that the House pass it, and the minority recommended that the House kill it, by a vote of 16–4. On April 25, 1995 the House voted to pass it on a roll call 203–148. On April 25, 1995 the House failed “Reconsider” on a voice vote, on a motion by Rep. Hurst. The bill was enrolled on May 9, 1995 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 16, 1995, making it Chapter 108 of the session laws. It took effect on July 15, 1995.
