The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 1995 and referred to the House Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 8, 1995. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 18–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 15, 1995 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on February 21, 1995 and was referred to the Senate Public Institutions, Health and Human Services committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 29, 1995. The majority recommended that the Senate pass it with changes, and the minority recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 13, 1995 the Senate adopted “Recommit” on a voice vote. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On May 2, 1995 the Senate adopted “Recommit” on a voice vote. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On May 23, 1995 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 31, 1995 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 6, 1995 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 19, 1995, making it Chapter 258 of the session laws. It took effect on August 18, 1995.
