HB 515-FN (1995)

authorizing the liquor commission to determine the location of agency stores, repealing the liquor and wine import warehouser license, and prohibiting liquor/wine/beverage warehouser licensees from holding other licenses under title XIII.

  • Status: Vetoed, override failed
  • Term: 1995-1996
  • House committee: Regulated Revenues
  • Senate committee: Ways and Means
  • Subject: Liquor and Beer

The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 1995 and referred to the House Regulated Revenues committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 31, 1995. The committee held a work session on February 9, 1995. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 13–5. On March 2, 1995 the House adopted “Special Order to 03/09/1995 10:00” on a voice vote. On March 9, 1995 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the Senate on March 15, 1995 and was referred to the Senate Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 4, 1995. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 6, 1995 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on April 13, 1995 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on April 24, 1995. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On June 29, 1995 the House voted 104–235 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
