The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 1995 and referred to the House Municipal and County Government committee. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 14–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 2, 1995 the House voted to pass it. It crossed to the Senate on March 9, 1995 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 17, 1995. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On April 25, 1995 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 9, 1995 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 16, 1995 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on May 24, 1995, making it Chapter 141 of the session laws. It took effect on July 1, 1995.
