The Story
It was introduced on January 4, 1995 and referred to the House Commerce, Small Business, Consumer Affairs and Economic Development committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 11, 1995. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 15–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On February 15, 1995 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on February 21, 1995 and was referred to the Senate Banks committee. The committee held public hearings on March 28, 1995 and May 3, 1995. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On May 11, 1995 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 23, 1995 the House voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on June 6, 1995 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. It became law without the governor's signature on June 20, 1995, as Chapter 274. The governor neither signed it nor returned it, and the docket records it as enacted under Part II, Article 44 of the state constitution.
