The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 1994 and referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 7, 1994. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On February 15, 1994 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a roll call 20–3. It crossed to the House on February 17, 1994 and was referred to the House Children, Youth and Juvenile Justice committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 22, 1994. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 13–5. On April 19, 1994 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 10, 1994 the Senate voted to agree to the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. An enrolled bill amendment () was adopted on May 26, 1994. These correct technical errors found after passage. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 1994 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor — and an enrolled bill amendment (6675) was adopted to correct technical errors found after passage. The governor signed it on June 10, 1994, making it Chapter 411 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 1995.
