The Story

It was introduced on January 5, 1994 and referred to the Senate Insurance committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 17, 1994. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On March 10, 1994 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a division vote, then referred it on to the Senate Fin committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On March 22, 1994 the Senate voted to pass it on a voice vote. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Commerce, Small Business and Consumer Affairs committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 6, 1994. The committee held a work session on April 12, 1994. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it unanimously, 16–0. On April 19, 1994 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote, then referred it on to the House Appropriations committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 27, 1994. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it by a vote of 19–1. On May 11, 1994 the House voted to pass it on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 1994 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 6, 1994, making it Chapter 298 of the session laws. It took effect on January 1, 1995.
