The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 1994 and referred to the Senate Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on January 25, 1994. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On February 10, 1994 the Senate voted to pass it on a division vote, then referred it on to the Senate Fin committee. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On March 22, 1994 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. It crossed to the House and was referred to the House Ways and Means committee. The committee held a public hearing on March 30, 1994. The committee held a work session on April 20, 1994. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes by a vote of 14–3. On May 11, 1994 the House voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On May 12, 1994 the Senate voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On May 17, 1994 the House adopted “Accede to Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on May 19, 1994 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On May 26, 1994 the House adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. On May 26, 1994 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 1994 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 8, 1994, making it Chapter 336 of the session laws. It took effect on June 8, 1994.
