  • House committee: Legislative Administration
  • Senate committee: Executive Departments and Administration

The Story

It was introduced on January 6, 1994 and referred to the House Legislative Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 2, 1994. The committee held a work session on March 1, 1994. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 11–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 10, 1994 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on March 22, 1994 and was referred to the Senate Executive Departments and Administration committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 19, 1994. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it with changes. On April 21, 1994 the Senate voted to pass it with changes on a voice vote. On April 28, 1994 the House voted to reject the other chamber's changes on a voice vote. On May 10, 1994 the Senate adopted “Accede to Request for Committee of Conference” on a voice vote. A committee of conference met on May 17, 1994 to try to settle the differences between the two chambers' versions of the bill. On May 24, 1994 the Senate adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. On May 26, 1994 the House adopted “Conference Committee Report” on a voice vote. The bill was enrolled on May 26, 1994 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor signed it on June 8, 1994, making it Chapter 329 of the session laws. It took effect on August 7, 1994.
