reducing the mandatory minimum sentence for a habitual offender convicted of unlawfully operating a motor vehicle.
- Status: Vetoed, override failed
- Term: 1993-1994
- House committee: Corrections and Criminal Justice
- Senate committee: Judiciary

The Story
It was introduced on January 5, 1994 and referred to the House Corrections and Criminal Justice committee. The committee held a public hearing on February 1, 1994. The committee held work sessions on February 8, 1994 and February 15, 1994. The majority of the committee recommended that the House pass it with changes unanimously, 10–0, and the report was placed on the consent calendar. On March 15, 1994 the House voted to pass it with changes. It crossed to the Senate on March 24, 1994 and was referred to the Senate Judiciary committee. The committee held a public hearing on April 6, 1994. The committee recommended that the Senate pass it. On April 14, 1994 the Senate voted to pass it on a roll call 15–8. The bill was enrolled on May 10, 1994 — the final check of the text before it goes to the governor. The governor vetoed it on May 23, 1994. The legislature can override a veto with a two-thirds vote in both chambers. On June 22, 1994 the House voted 138–205 on overriding the governor's veto on a roll call, and the veto was sustained, failing to meet the two thirds threshold.
